The Reading / Listening – Customer Reviews – Level 3

The computer giant Apple has removed all customer reviews from several of its online Apple stores. The reviews section was a useful way for customers to leave feedback for other people about Apple’s products. The reviews section on the Apple Store began disappearing last week. Apple has removed the “Ratings and Reviews” section of its online stores across the world. The reviews pages have gone from the stores in the USA, UK and Australia. This means that anyone in those countries wanting to find reviews on Apple products will have to visit other websites. Apple has not yet commented on its decision to remove the ratings and reviews section, so nobody knows why they have taken this action.

The website pcmag.com speculated that the removal could have been a mistake, but then it said the removal was part of a new Apple policy. It said: “Clearly, Apple has decided its online store is better without customer feedback for some reason. Alternatively, the customer feedback system is being overhauled.” PC Mag said Apple used to be very open and allow all kinds of comments, including very negative reviews. It said: “Apple wasn’t shy about leaving extremely negative reviews and ratings up on its store in the past”. It added: “We’re also heading into the busiest shopping period of the year, and Apple online store customers have lost an important source of information when deciding what to buy.”

the computer giant apple has removed all customer reviews from several of its online apple stores the reviews section was a useful way for customers to leave feedback for other people about apples products the reviews section on the apple store began disappearing last week apple has removed the ratings and reviews section of its online stores across the world the reviews pages have gone from the stores in the usa uk and australia this means that anyone in those countries wanting to find reviews on apple products will have to visit other websites apple has not yet commented on its decision to remove the ratings and reviews section so nobody knows why they have taken this action

the website pcmagcom speculated that the removal could have been a mistake but then it said the removal was part of a new apple policy it said clearly apple has decided its online store is better without customer feedback for some reason alternatively the customer feedback system is being overhauled pc mag said apple used to be very open and allow all kinds of comments including very negative reviews it said apple wasnt shy about leaving extremely negative reviews and ratings up on its store in the past it added were also heading into the busiest shopping period of the year and apple online store customers have lost an important source of information when deciding what to buy

    Why “shrink” (of a psychiatrist)?

I know it originates from “head shrinking”, but it doesn’t help me a lot to understand the etymology. Why are psychiatrists called that? Is it like “my head is swollen [from anguish, misery, stress, etc.], I must have it shrunk”?

The word indeed comes from “head shrinker”, and likely originates from the “shrunken heads” of tribal rituals. One possibility from World Wide Words:

All the early evidence suggests that the person who invented the psychiatrist sense worked in the movies (no jokes please). We have to assume that the term came about because people regarded the process of psychiatry as being like head-shrinking because it reduced the size of the swollen egos so common in show-business. Or perhaps they were suspicious about what psychiatrists actually did to their heads and how they did it and so made a joke to relieve the tension.

I’m afraid I have to disagree here. From my understanding, and a recent article in the Atlantic, derived from the new text Marketplace of the Marvelous: The Strange Origins of Modern Medicine, referring to a psychiatrist as a shrink refers not specifically to head-shrinking tribesmen, but to the field of phrenology, a significantly closer cultural institution to psychiatry.

“The national obsession with head size and shape also infected daily conversation. Many modern phrases trace their roots to phrenology, including “highbrow” and “lowbrow,” “well rounded,” and “shrink” (as in “shrinking” certain undesirable qualities). “Getting your head examined” also has phrenological roots. Though generally considered an insult today, in the past, it was just what most people wanted. By the mid-19th century, the Fowlers’ publications could be found all over the country, and phrenological ideas had become a part of everyday conversation.”

To answer your question, reading up on phrenology in general can explain a number of the specific phrases we use for psychiatry, since phrenology dealt directly with size of different parts of the head as means of attempting to quantify different attributes.

    Shrinkela.com Review: Legit? Shrinkela Scam?

Shrinkela, which is selling various products such as COAT RACKS & UMBRELLA STANDS, PROJECTORS, TVs and so on, doesn’t seem to be a genuine or trustworthy website. So, do we mean Shrinkela is a scam? Well, let’s find out either is a Shrinkela.com scam or legit and what is Shrinkela.com in real through our Shrinkela review here. So, let’s begin with our Shrinkela review.

Following things make us suspicious about Shrinkela website:-

    # Shrinkela has provided its company’s address as “5 WARD LANE, FILER, ID 83328”. However, when we searched for this location on Google Maps, we found out it is an address of a residential farm area but not an address of any company or shop or store. So, it makes Shrinkela a very suspicious website since legit online stores always provide the authentic detailed company’s address but scam online stores always found to be hiding their identity or providing a fake address.

    # Like lots of scam sites, the website Shrinkela has also poorly designed which looks similar to lots of scam sites. For example; its website theme is very untidy; lots of details provided on the Shrinkela website match with other suspicious sites such as BamuBlue, Galosheno, Duffletta, Hemlinics, Skirteep, Mildewrio, Gussetole, Gussetvamp, Pranem, Zarawn, Lasrn, Whalegot, Expnm, Salecb, Reeboa, Matawey, Amawen, Turkenow, Luckwa, Newmuy, Zaloray, Wearule, Wewmea, and so on; Shrinkela is selling lots of items at a very cheap price which is too good to be true; Shrinkela hasn’t secured its website properly and so on. Since the Shrinkela website is not secured properly, so if you shop at this site, your personal and financial information might be stolen.

    # These days multiple new online stores are claiming to sell various items on huge discount, but most of them are scams. So, it’s better to stay away from the new online stores or at least do some research before you purchase something from the new online stores because most of these new online stores don’t deliver the purchased items to their clients or, deliver completely different or very low-quality items.

    # Some scam online stores even have charged the credit card of clients randomly without their consent. So, if you have ever purchased mistakenly from scam sites, we suggest you immediately contact your bank or credit card company to secure your credit card information.

It is clear that Shrinkela is a suspicious website through our Shrinkela review as above.
